Our Work

Created in 2022 by a group of activists and donors, Article18 Network fills a critical gap in the civil-society sector by connecting grassroots religious-freedom defenders to a global network of allies. We look for local leaders who are protecting and promoting the rights of their community—then we provide the tools and training they need to succeed.

Training

We seek to ensure that people – particularly those who are vulnerable to discrimination, intimidation, or detention for their peaceful religious activities – are able to defend and safeguard their rights. It’s a priority for us to equip and empower networks of partners and communities, to become advocates for justice.

We train on the use of existing national laws and international accountability mechanisms and other advocacy tools to raise awareness among the international community about the status of freedom of religion. Through our accelerator programme, we provide the following online and face-to-face courses:

  • An Introduction to FoRB
  • Advocacy: A guide for churches and small NGOs
  • Monitoring and Documentation, the basics of
  • Incident Reporting 101
  • A guide to planning and running campaigns

Please contact us if you are interested in running a workshop for your church or organisation.

Networking

A18Int liaises with other international FoRB networks to align with broader global developments and seek opportunities for collaboration. Together we can leverage much more significant change than any one body could achieve on its own.

You can join our A18 Forum organised three times a year, by becoming an associate partner, provided you:

  • Support the aim of Article18 Network to advance FoRB for all
  • Affirm Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • Are committed to non-violence

For all enquiries, please fill out the form on our contact page.

Advocacy

A18Int’s team and partners have been involved in advocacy initiatives over many years at local, national and international levels. We help individuals, NGOs, and churches speak out, challenge and change unjust laws, policies and practices that lead to abuses of the right to freedom of religion and belief at a local, national and global level.

We work with churches to enable policy-makers to stand up for FoRB and make a difference.
Through our global network of advocates, we encourage those in positions of power to bring about change using the United Nations accountability mechanism, as we as other stockholders in UK and US, the European Union and other regional and international bodies.
